Celebrate the beginning of 2017 and the first Thirsty Thursday of the year with a Madras Slushy! The classic madras drink is made elegant and easy with an all-natural premade blood orange mixer.
It's 2017 y'all and time to celebrate with a Madras Slushy!!! Yes, the start of a new year is normally met with healthy recipes and exhausting workout schedules, but we are keeping the party going over here at TEA with an alcoholic drink recipe.
The most popular recipe on the blog is this wine slushy. No matter what time of year it is...winter, spring, summer, or fall...apparently everyone just loves an alcoholic slushy. So, who am I to disagree with the people? So my New Year's resolution is to create MORE SLUSHY RECIPES!!!!! You're welcome ?
The first one is my take on the madras, a classic vodka cocktail made with orange, cranberry and lime juice. My version of the recipe is substituting the typical orange juice with Stirrings Simple Blood Orange Martini Mixer and a little Grand Marnier orange liqueur, then blending it up with some ice (and a bunch of vodka, cranberry juice, and fresh lime juice) to make a big ole slushy!
I'll admit, I did think a bit about keeping things healthy and this Madras Slushy could even be considered nutritious if you factor in the cranberry juice and fresh lime juice. Aren't those superfoods and provide 100% of the recommended daily intake of antioxidants? Well, maybe not, BUT this is a pretty darn tasty drink so at least it's got that going for it.
Speaking of drinking, I've found myself fighting back-to-back colds these last few weeks so I didn't partake in drinking much this holiday season. Guess that's another reason why I'm bucking the trend and extending the holiday happy hour around here.
Also, I entered this recipe in the Stirrings "Stir It Up Holiday Mixology Challenge". Check out Stirrings and all the other contest drink recipes on their social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
So let's all raise our Madras Slushy glasses and cheers to a wonderful 2017 for everyone (and a fantastic Thirsty Thursday!)

Using blood orange certainly does make the color pop and must taste extra special.

"Make more alcoholic slushies" is probably the best New Year's resolution I've ever heard. And hey, even if it isn't the healthiest, it's GOT to be better than a Jack and Coke, right? I mean it's PRACTICALLY a serving of fruit. This is so pretty and I love anything with blood orange! I need to check out your wine slushy, too, sounds fantastic! Hope you're feeling better, K! Pinned this gloriousness 🙂

Lol, I like how you think, K! I'm unfortunately taking a break from all things alcohol related, BUT you better bet this marvelous Madras Slushy will be the first thing I'm drinking in a few weeks! Since you've been sick so much you have a lot of catching up to do! I say go pour a pitcher and drink for me! 🙂 Cheers, lovely! Xo
